Home / ACJ - Named Photos / Gilda Gray by Alfred Cheney Johnston_profdash [20]
Gilda Gray by Alfred Cheney Johnston_profdash 2014_Sep 2
Dancer Gilda Gray of the Ziegfeld Follies & late 1920s Shows was one of Alfred Cheney Johnston's favorite models. He exposed hundreds of negatives of her in as many as eight different sittings. This collection supplies an overview of the costumes and backdrops used in these posing sessions. You can see blank background shots and more finished ones for which he painted in his trademark wall patterns on the negatives. While the most collected Gilda Gray pose by ACJ is a drape shot on a piano bench holding a painters palate, her are the range of posing ideas he toyed with. It would be interesting to see how many images for each costume-set up could be gathered. David S. Shields
